Spreading over an area of 7 villages (Tan Cong Sinh, Phu Duc, Phu Tho, Phu Thanh A, Phu Thanh B, Phu Hiep) and Tram Chim town in Tam Nong District.

Spreading over an area of 7 villages (Tan Cong Sinh, Phu Duc, Phu Tho, Phu Thanh A, Phu Thanh B, Phu Hiep) and Tram Chim town in Tam Nong District, the Tram Chim National Park is a miniature of the Dong Thap Muoi region, featuring a broad and diverse range of animals and plants in the Southern Vietnam.

The total area of Tram Chim National Park is more than 7500 ha, housing as many as 200 types of birds which make up ¼ the bird population in Vietnam. Some of these birds have been put in the Red Book for a long time. The most typical and most well-known one is the Red-crown Crane, one of the last 15 crane pieces in the world. Normally, a crane has a height of more than 1.7 m, gray feathers, long neck, red head and wide wings. Unlike other types of bird in the region, these cranes only find food on land. During the rainy season when the level of water in Dong Thap rise continuously, they have to look for food in other places. Thus, you can only see these birds there from December to June.
The Tram Chim National Park has been renovated and invested by the government to become a natural museum and an attractive eco-tourism site. Many international preservation organizations have also sponsored to help protecting the rare and valuable birds there.
If you ever do a research about Vietnam, you are most likely to stumble upon a giant name, Ho Chi Minh.

If you ever do a research about Vietnam, you are most likely to stumble upon a giant name, Ho Chi Minh. Intelligent and courageous, he is considered by the Vietnamese people as the greatest leader of all time. Interestingly, on your trip to Dong Thap, you can easily expand your knowledge about this man by visiting the Revered Nguyen Sinh Sac Historical Site. Don’t be too excited yet. This site was built to commemorate not Ho Chi Minh, but his revered father – Nguyen Sinh Sac! Located right in Cao Lanh City, this historical site has been ranked by the National Cultural and Information Department in 1992 as one of the most important cultural and architectural complexes in Dong Thap Province.

The whole site has an area of 3.6 ha including two parts: the tomb and the hall of the revered Nguyen Sinh Sac, and other interesting features such as a stilt house, a pond, and an office simulating those of Ho Chi Minh in Hanoi. Right after you enter the main gate, you can see the tomb of the revered Nguyen Sinh Sac, which has a hands-shaped roof decorated with nine craved dragons – the symbol of the Mekong Delta (Cuu Long Delta). After visiting the tomb, you can feel free to explore the surrounding garden. Surprisingly, all the flowers and plants in this garden are the token of love from people around the country. When walking, do not be surprised if you see some giant trees, they are said to be nearly 300 year old! In addition to the tomb and the garden, the hall is also a place that you must visit. There are many documents, pictures and vestiges related to the life of the revered Nguyen Sinh Sac, especially the period when he stayed in Cao Lanh and the Southern Vietnam.
Every lunar year, on the 27th day of the 10th month, people from everywhere gather here to celebrate the death anniversary of the revered Nguyen Sinh Sac. Even though this has become a formal event recently, the celebration still has a very festive spirit that can cheer up any eager participant.
Some of the 36 streets that make up the Ancient Quarter still offer only a single commodity. One of the best is Hang Quat, where shops sell an incredible array of lacquered wood candle sticks, bowls, picture frames, religious shrines, and decorative pieces.

Practically every single item is painted in some combination of red, white and gold. Many of the things are elaborate to the point of being garish. Since prices are staggeringly low, buy what you can. Like folk art in other developing nations, these uniquely Northern Vietnamese handicrafts will begin to die out along with the present generation of artisans creating them. The shelves of shops in Ho Chi Minh city are already filled with factory made schlock. Sadly, this will happen in Hanoi soon enough.
Vietnamese silk is among the world’s finest. Hang Gai (thread street) has for centuries been home to some of Hanoi’s best silk shops.

Hanoi Culture
Hanoians are proud people; they take pride in their cuisines, their etiquettes, their rich tradition and about their own love for the city not only to international tourists but also to people from other provinces in Vietnam. Hanoi food is listed among things you should try before leaving to another world. (read our top 5 must-try foods in Hanoi).
Adding to that, Hanoi is packed with museums, monuments, cafes, restaurants, discos, handicraft stores and almost anything that make your stay both convenient and entertaining. Most travellers spend about 2-5 days to tour the city but should you fall in love with Hanoi, you can always stay longer!

Located 38km from Lao Cai City, Sapa is a mountainous district of Lao Cai Province. Sapa District is very well-known with Sapa Townlet, a beautiful and romantic resort.

At the height of 1,600m above sea level, the average temperature of the area is 15-18°C. It is cool in summer and cold in winter.
Visitor to Sapa in summer can feel the climate of four seasons in one day. In the morning and afternoon, it is cool like the weather of spring and autumn. At noon, it is as sunny and cloudless as the weather of summer. And it is cold in the evening. With no advance warning of a thunderstorm short and heavy rains may come at noon on any summer day. Subsequently, a rainbow appears, transforming Sapa into a magic land, which for years has been a constant source of poetic inspiration, lights up the whole region.

The best time to witness the scenic beauty of Sapa is in April and May. Before that period, the weather might be cold and foggy; after that period is the rainy season. In April and May, Sapa is blooming with flowers and green pastures. The clouds that settle in the valley in early morning quickly disappear into thin air.

Sapa has many natural sites such as Ham Rong Mountain, Silver Waterfall, Rattan Bridge, Bamboo Forest and Ta Phin Cave. Sapa is also the starting point for many climbers and scientists who want to reach the top of Fansipan Mountain, the highest mountain in Vietnam at 3,143m. Hoang Lien Mountain Range is also called the Alps of the North Sea area since Fansipan Mountain is not only the highest peak in Vietnam, but also in the Indochina Peninsula. The pyramid-shaped mountain is covered with clouds all year round and temperatures often drop below zero, especially at high elevations.

The first thing you notice when approaching the resort town are some detached wooden mansions and villas perched on a hill top or hillside, behind thick pine forests and almost invisible on this foggy morning. Old and new villas with red roofs now appear and now disappear in the green rows of pomu trees, bringing the town the beauty of European towns.

Fresh and cool air in Sapa is an idea climate condition for growing temperate vegetables such as cabbage, chayote, precious medicinal herbs, and fruit trees such as plum, pear…

Sapa is home to various families of flowers of captivating colours, which can be found nowhere else in the country. When Tet, the Lunar New Year Festival, comes, the whole township of Sapa is filled with the pink colour of peach blossom brought from the vast forests of peach just outside the town. Sapa is regarded as the kingdom of orchids. Here, orchid lovers are even amazed by the choice, when trekking in the forest filled with several hundred kinds of orchids of brilliant colours and fantastic shapes, such as Orchid Princess, Orchid of My Fair Lady's Shoe. Some orchids are named after lovely singing birds such as the canary, salangane's nest, and more.

Sapa is most beautiful in spring. Apricot, plum and cherry flowers are splendidly beautiful. Markets are crowded and merry, and are especially attractive to visitors. Minority groups come here to exchange and trade goods and products. Market sessions are also a chance for locals to promenade and young men and women in colorful costumes to meet, date or seek sweethearts.

Visitors to Sapa will have opportunities to discover the unique customs of the local residents.

Location
Driving 9km south of Danang city center on the famous beachfront boulevard Truong Sa, travelers can find one of the most popular attractions of the region, the Marble mountains. It is a group of five marble and limestone mountains, named after the five elements of the ancient oriental philosophy: metal, wood, water, fire and earth.

What to see
These mountains have a complicated system of caves and tunnels. In the past they were used as hiding places and important bases for the Vietnam revolutionaries.

Thuy Son and Vong Giang
Among the five, Thuy Son, the mountain of water, is the highest one and also the main attraction. Almost all tourists come to Marble Mountains to climb Thuy Son. This mountain has many caves and Buddhist temples, many dating back to the 17th century.
Climbing up about 150 stone steps from the foot of Thuy Son, one will reach the most beautiful observatory spot: the Riverview Tower or Vong Giang Tower in Vietnamese. The tower was built in the 18th century by Emperor Minh Mang, offering a breathtaking view to Kim Son or the mountain of metal, Truong Giang and Cam Le rivers and beautiful coastal ahead.

Non Nuoc Village
Tourists may also want to visit the Non Nuoc Village at the foot of Marble Mountains. The village is famous for stone sculptures and handicrafts. Here you can buy many things made of marble stone, from small one like earrings, necklaces, vases to the huge sculptures of Buddha. In the past, rock was extracted directly from the Marble Mountains to make sculptures but now the direct extraction was made illegal. Materials for sculpturing work are now transported from nearby provinces like Quang Nam and Thanh Hoa.

How to get there

From Da Nang city center, tourists have a plenty of choices to get to Marble Mountains. Either book a tour or take a taxi, or even a motorbike-taxi, you can reach your destination in a few minutes. From Hoi An, drive north 20 km you will see a big sign saying the Marble mountain.

Ho Chi Minh City is well equipped for tourists and the locals are very welcoming towards all nationalities. The main danger in the city is the traffic, so pedestrians should be very careful and if possible, shadow a local when crossing a busy road. Travelers who haven't driven in Asian cities should stick to public transport, as traffic is highly undisciplined and many local drivers act ruthlessly on the road.

Customs and etiquette
Vietnamese are very polite, gentle and welcoming people, who will often invite you to their homes or out for dinner. They are generally tolerant of foreign etiquette; however, there are some points to remember if you are eager to respect their traditions.

When visiting areas away from the beach resorts, it is more polite to dress conservatively and show as little skin as possible. This is particularly important when visiting a religious site such as a temple or mosque. Shoes should always be removed before entering a local's residence or place of worship.

Chopsticks should never be left pointing vertically out of a bowl as this is considered very rude and unlucky. Placing chopsticks across the top of your bowl is much more polite.

Try to keep your cool regardless of the situation, heated behavior is considered a loss of face for all parties involved and will not help the matter at hand.

Money
The Vietnamese dong (VND) is the local currency. One US dollar amounts to 17,800VND. It is possible to find a cheap meal in a basic restaurant for slightly under US$2. Multiply this by twenty and you can dine at the city's most lavish establishments.

There are ATMS throughout the city and credit cards are accepted in large hotels and shopping centers. Having some cash at hand is essential for market shopping, taxis and cyclos.

Weather
Ho Chi Minh City geographical location means the city has a tropical climate with two seasons: a rain season and a dry season. The rain descends on the city in May and falls until November, while December until April is the dry season. The weather during the month before each change of season can sometimes be unpredictable.

Temperatures soar to sultry heights in April, and the city is also prone to destructive typhoons during this period. The coolest month is December, but temperatures remain in the twenties during the day.

The most pleasant time to visit Saigon is during the dry season when humidity is low and sightseers can keep dry.
Ho Chi Minh City lacks the heady blend of cultural collection found in Hanoi; however, the city still has plenty to offer on the entertainment front. Aside from day time frolicking in the city's water parks, visitors can hit the town after dark to sample local nightlife.

The city's numerous water parks provide welcome relief when the temperature starts to soar, and the Saigon River is also a fun splash pool. Many locals jump in the river too, so there is a fantastic opportunity to interact with Saigon residents.

Saigon Opera House is one of the finest examples of French Colonial architecture in the city. The grand 800-seater venue provides the ideal setting to watch a local performance.

Water puppetry can also be enjoyed in Saigon, as many of the Hanoi based shows travel to Saigon to perform at the Golden Dragon Water Puppetry Theater. This unique art is a must-see while traveling in Vietnam.

Water parks
A number of fun splash pools provide a welcome break from sightseeing. New slides and equipment are added each year, and the parks are generally quite safe. Parks are open all year round and provide hours of fun for all the family.

Saigon River
This is the best place to meet and have a splash with the locals. River swimming should be enjoyed fully clothed, copy local swimming attire to avoid offending. Swimming is best enjoyed when it's hot, which is often.

Saigon Opera House

This grand example of French colonial architecture provides the perfect arena for enjoying a performance. The impressive venue is a focal point in the city and allows visitors to gain insight into the local arts and culture. Details of shows are available from the office behind the theater.
Only 14.6 km away to the southwest of Nam Can Town, the Hon Khoai Island is located in Ngoc Hien District of Ca Mau Province

Only 14.6 km away to the southwest of Nam Can Town, the Hon Khoai Island is located in Ngoc Hien District of Ca Mau Province.  This is a stone island on which the hills and the forest still remain untouched with many specious types of wood, animal, and plants, as well as a mesmerizing artless wilderness.

Three enjoyable hours on the 90CV cruise from RachGoc (the gate to the East Sea of Ngoc Hien District) will take you to the spectacular Hon Khoai Island, one of the most beautiful islands in the Southern-most region of the country. You should not confuse Hon Khoai Island with Hon Khoai archipelago, which is a group of 5 spectacular islands. The Hon Khoai Island is the biggest and also the highest island surrounding by the other four.

Setting foot on Hon Khoai Island enables all tourists to enjoy the poetically beautiful seashores that are full of white egg-shaped cobbles. Tourists can also challenge their bravery by climbing up the mountains or discovering the tropical jungle. However, no matter what they do, the rare and priceless scenery of primitive forest with more than 1000 types of plants and hundreds species of wild animal will surely leave them speechless from time to time.

Nowadays, on the highest peak of Hon Khoai Island still stands a beautiful lighthouse built by the French at the end of the 19th century. This is the place where a revered teacher named Pham Ngoc Hien led a group of prisoners to success over the French leader of the island, which resulted in their ownership of the lighthouse. This is a wondrous exploit that always appears in the local tales today. From this lighthouse, visitors can use the telescopes to look closely at one of the 5 surrounding islands called Hon DoiMoi, which resembles a tortoise swimming in the middle of the ocean. However, the most special thing is that they can also use the telescopes to have a look at the Cape of Ca Mau, to once in their life known how beautiful the cape is from afar. Without coming to Hon Khoai, such opportunity would be nearly impossible!

Located in Chau Thanh District, Tien Giang Province - 12km from My Tho City Centre, Dong Tam Snake Farm is one of the country’s largest snake-raising centers where venom is produced for local use and export, with its collection of over 50 species of snake.

Location and history
Located in Chau Thanh District, Tien Giang Province - 12km from My Tho City Centre, Dong Tam Snake Farm is one of the country’s largest snake-raising centers where venom is produced for local use and export, with its collection of over 50 species of snake.

This 11-ha-farm was formerly run by a retired Vietnamese soldier and expert-at-snake named Tran Van Duoc (Tu Duoc also). The farm is now under the operation of military, with a big collection of not only snakes but also some animals like: crocodiles, bears, turtles, sheep and ostriches. Some of them are mutant – evidences of the spraying of Agent Orange in the Mekong Delta during war time.

A museum of snake
It is no surprise that Dong Tam Farm is often regarded as the world of snake or the museum of snake, thanks to its big size and considerable number of snakes. From an extremely aggressive and even capable of spitting poison such as: copperheads and dendrophis; to some that can be pulled out for visitors to take photos, the farm is indeed a must-see for those who are interested in these wild and scary reptile. Most of the snakes raised here are pythons and cobras. The king cobras are raised only for exhibits.

In fact, Dong Tam Farm functions as a hospital for those bitten by snakes and a medicinal plant cultivation place which saves hundreds of lives every year. A trip there would provide tourists with information about how to treat snakebites and demonstrated venom extraction and some of its uses.

Visitor information
From Ho Chi Minh City, it’s quite convenient to get to the farm by motorbike, as well as car. From Dong Tam Junction, follow the dirt road for 4km, turn right and continue until you reach the snake farm. To get there from My Tho, follow Le Thi Hong Gam street westward along the river for around 7km and turn right just beyond the Binh Duc post office. Then follow the dirt road for 3km.

Visitors can purchase snakes at a price of VND 150,000 to VND 200,000 per kilogram (depending on the type of snake) as well as snake wine, snake flour, glue and anti-venom. Some local restaurants have snakes on their menus.

French colonization period has been over for a long long time, but a huge number of traces still existed as memory keepers for one of the darkest period in the history of Vietnam. History
French colonization period has been over for a long long time, but a huge number of traces still existed as memory keepers for one of the darkest period in the history of Vietnam. Among these historical relics, Son La Prison is regarded as one of the most famous places, with a no less notorious name “Hell on Earth” to describe the frightened brutality of French colonialists to Vietnamese prisoners here.

The prison was established in 1908 at the center of Son La town and on top of Khau Ca Hill. A tiny one at first, the prison soon expanded to become a crucial place where numerous political prisoners were locked.  The place was notorious at the time as a cruel and terrifying jail where resisting wills and patriotism on the mind of prisoners was diminished in the bloodiest methods. However, for revolutionists imprisoned inside Son La Jail, the place was a “college” where stamina, solidarity and combating spirit was enhanced. There were various stories about tenaciousness and courage of revolutionists who have resisted the colonial and perished at this place like To Hieu.

Inside the prison
Although the original construction was partially demolished after the two wars, Son La Prison has still conserved major features of it, especially jail system and torturing facilities inside. Impression of visitors to outer sceneries might be nothing special, but most guests crossing the entrance and enter the prison will definitely be surprised with inside space because they cannot understand how French colonial can lock prisoners in the terrible place like this.

The atmosphere is damp and stifling with ugly smelling and insects everywhere. For the underground jails, condition is much worse and essentials elements for human lives like light and air seems only be a luxury. Moreover, there are also some special rooms for torturing that has remained with almost complete collection of unbelievably terrifying items and method for excruciating and collecting information from prisoners.  The common feeling of visitors when they see those rooms is horror with their brutality and fortunate when they do not have to experience the cruelty of these tools.
